“A great hours fun “flying” – a brilliant present”

Had a fantastic time at Sim-Fly based at Old Buckenham Airfield. Enjoyed a trip to Jimmy’s Café on the airfield before visiting Sim-Fly where we were welcomed by John who explained how the session would work along with agreeing the types I wished to fly – there’s a very long list – and where from. It was then onto the simulator where John gave a clear briefing of the controls and then an introduction “flying” a Cessna 172 over Norwich. This was followed by stints in a Spitfire from Biggin Hill, Hawk over Yellowstone, Tiger Moth from JFK and Chipmunk from Cambridge. Even had to cope with an engine failure in the Tiger Moth 🙂 A great experience that I would recommend to anyone with an interest in flying.
“The best surprise ever”

As a woman of 67 I can honestly say this was one of the best surprises I have ever had. This is the most excitement you can have safely in an airplane. Given as a surprise for my birthday, I was unsure what to expect but it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I enjoyed every moment, from meeting John,to getting behind the instruments and into the cockpit. I couldn’t believe that I was learning the basics of flying. This is not a fairground arcade game, John is a very patient, informative instructor who happens to be a pilot too! It genuinely feels like one is flying his planes. The time passed very quickly because it was so much fun and I felt pleasantly exhausted, as if I had truly been the pilot. John will answer any questions, he ensures you are happy with his instructions all the way through the experience, tailors the day to your own personal wishes. The choice of planes and destinations makes it even more exciting. This was a birthday present, but as from now I shall regularly be finding all possible reasons for treating myself to another flying session.

I took my 16 year old son to Flysim in Old Buckenham and was greeted by a lovely chap called John who proceeded to guide my lad through four different aircraft simulations. John knew his stuff but was not overbearing. We also didn’t feel at all rushed and really enjoyed the experience. Definitely recommended!

I was given this simulator session as a present and I have to say that I thorougly enjoyed it. John is very friendly and a first class instructor. The hour and a half session just flew by (no pun intended). There are hundreds of aircraft and locations to choose from, so something to suit everyone. Thank you John for a memorable experience and I’d recommend this without hesitation. It makes a great present.

What a great experience! Life like graphics and a real feeling of being in a cock pit, first class instruction. Flew from Norwich in a Cessna and flow over our house, then into the Spitfire and barrel rolled over Southwold pier! finally to land in Venice on a grass runway with an engine. I have already recommended to family.

Well it was an excellent day out to sim fly . I went with my Dad as i had purchased him a solo voucher for christmas. John was excellent and my dad loved the day out .the simulator was great and really enjoyed flying over our own town . There is a cafe and museum there as well so can make a day of it. Sitting outside the cafe eating fish and chips watching planes take off was brilliant. Would highly recomend for anyone . Thanks again John from Shane and Andy. PS sorry about landing.

From the get go I had a warm welcome from John the proprietor, and after a brief talk on the format of the afternoon we proceeded to the simulator. I was in the hot seat from the start, and John provided clear, concise instructions on the basic controls (these would presumably vary according to the type of aircraft chosen, I was/ am a complete beginner), and I was soon in the air. There’s so much to do, see, think about, and learn, the time literally flew by (pardon the pun), John was a consummate professional, and put me at my ease, and generally made the time very pleasurable. Long story short, go and visit Sim-Fly Norfolk, a fantastic experience, and one I hope to repeat. Many thanks, Pete.

Fancy flying a Hurri or a Spit – over your own home or other favourite location? Then you must visit Sim-Fly Norfolk at Old Buckenham airfield, where you can do this and not worry about the dangers of a ‘prang’. Sim-Fly Norfolk offers ‘flights’ to satisfy all tastes, young and old, by the wonders of computer simulation in a realistic cockpit experience – with your pilot seat firmly fixed to the ground. On hand to guide you is the calm presence of Capt John Hoyte, owner and creator, an ex-airline training pilot with many years experience. After a briefing and cockpit run-through, John puts you at ease and lets you take control of any of a wide selection of aeroplanes. In your one and a half hour session you forget this is simulation and become immersed as you flick roll a Hurricane or aerobat a Red Arrow Hawk jet over your favourite landmark. From sedate Cessna to high performance jets, Sim-Fly Norfolk is the place to ‘reach for the sky.’ My £69 gift voucher was the best present my family could give me and I had a really great time.

A present that was bought for me for Christmas and was finally booked in a couple of weeks ago. I fly a lot for work but have never really had a chance to have a go myself. Well John was excellent as a trainer and was very flexible. The only issue for me was which plane to fly after the basic instruction, as the simulator options ran into the 100s – I went for Concorde and that was tough.
I had an audience of my wife and 3 children and even they were enamoured with the experience even with just watching for the most if it. John was however more than happy for everyone outside of me to have a short go. We started off at Norwich but ended up flying into St Maarten in the Caribbean which is a place I know well.
This was a well spent couple of hours and has possibly given me a taster for the real thing. Thanks John (and your faithful four legged friend Poppy!!)

My children bought me a flight as a present. John Hoyte; the proprieter is really welcoming and friendly, after a cup of coffee I was shown the simulator and after some basic training I flew a Cessna 172 over my house! I landed the Cessna, and then it was play time! I flew an F-15C, Focke Wulf 190, and a spitfire, tremendous fun, highly recommended!

Purchased for three members of my family a Christmas gift. We booked the whole day with John and even though I wasn’t a participant I didn’t feel left out at all. Felt very welcomed and even the dog settled down in her bed. The cafe for lunch (dog welcome again) was very friendly, nice food and good value. A very enjoyable day and John allowed us to play it out how we wanted so no-one was left ‘in the back seat’ for too long. No 1 might be in for a career change – he took to it like a duck to water as they say. A big thankyou to John – he was extremely helpful back in November when I had some questions before making my purchase. Would absolutely recommend this experience.

Myself, my sister and my Dad received an experience at Sim Fly for Christmas and did it this past weekend. The experience was brilliant, being able to fly any plane anywhere you like was really cool. I started off by taking off from Norwich airport and flying around to see my house before heading over to Wales in a Red Arrow in the afternoon. The controls were easy enough to pick up, especially with John there to help. I even managed to land the Red Arrow before turning it around and taking off again.
Can’t recommend the Sim Fly experience enough, it has made me re-think my career choice! Thanks very much to John for being so accommodating (we brought the whole family along, even the dog!)

What an experience, I flew a Cessna from Norwich airport, then a Spitfire and did a barrel roll then a Red Arrow and did a loop the loop then landed a Mosquito on the isle of Anglesea. An hour and a half of very realistic enjoyable flight. Highly recommended. Thanks to Brian and John.

This was bought for me as a gift and what a great gift it was. I always wanted to be a pilot growing up but due to educational and physical restraints I could never fulfil my dreams. 37 years on and there I was doing a loop the loop in a Red Arrow, flying over Poland in a Spitfire, chugging over Norwich in a Cessna and finally landing a sea plane in the lake district. You can see how flying can become addictive, from speaking to Capt John I would definitely consider getting my PPL following this experience and using Sim-Fly as a precursor for a few hrs to get “Plane savy” before embarking on the next stage.

I visited Sim-Fly recently and had a great experience. John was very welcoming and we discussed how the time was going to work followed by a very good overview of how the simulator worked. I took off from Norwich airport, flew over my old house, then changed plane to a Harrier jet and flew over the Lake District, flew a spitfire under Sydney Harbour bridge and then finished with a landing! You can choose which plane you like and fly it where you like. Very realistic and with excellent instruction throughout from John and Harvey. A great experience for those interested in planes or wanting to do something different.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable time on John’s simulator. It was a lot better than I was expecting and as near to real life as I believe you can get. Flying a Lancaster was a dream come true for me. I shall certainly visit again and sample the many other aircraft there are to choose from. John was an excellent instructor and a pleasure to talk to. I can’t recommend the whole experience enough and would urge anyone else who would like a go, to book up as soon as possible. Afterwards we also had a lovely meal in the cafe on site.

I would like to start off by saying a huge big thank-you to all the team at sim-fly Norfolk for making this a truly amazing experience.as a frustrated pilot, and I doubt there are quite a few out there! I found myself at the controls of a Cessna light aircraft just to get the taste of what was to come,i climbed out of Norwich airport quite steady and once levelled off I was able to see many of the landmarks that I am used to,flying over the towns I know and going in low for a closer look, the computer graphics are so life like it was like I was there.before I knew it I was at the controls of a hawk jet the iconic RED ARROWS flying fast and low through mountain terrain and then up to the sky doing loops. What else can I say but a huge thanks to my mother for buying me this voucher as a birthday present, totally recommend the experience to anyone, once again many thanks Mr Adrian Stokes.
“GREAT BIRTHDAY PRESENT”

My wife bought me a slot on John’s simulator for my birthday and, after a slight hiccough over arranging a suitable date, I finally got my surprise present. The simulator is set up in an old hangar on Old Buckenham airfield and is fairly easy to find although my car’s sat nav abandoned me some distance from the main gate. John heard me arrive at the hangar and came outside to greet me and I must say made me feel particularly welcome. The main simulator itself is quite simple in design and contains generic controls and instruments and proved easy to fly. John went out of his way to make it a fun and pleasurable experience which I thoroughly enjoyed. The software offers a huge array of aircraft to choose from and airfields to launch out of for the experience and I started off with some low flying around Wales in a Hawk from RAF Valley. It’s perfectly possible to change aircraft mid flight so next I tried a Canberra PR9 followed by a Buccaneer and finished with some aeros in a P51! Fantastic fun! Having thoroughly enjoyed that, John then suggested I try combat in one of the new Spitfire cockpits in a Battle of Britain type of scenario. Wow, was that even more fun! I took a fair amount of damage in my 15 minute slot but at least managed to account for a couple of ME 109’s so didn’t feel too bad.
Although John is always on hand with helpful advice when needed and acts as a great co-pilot, he’s also ably supported by 2 colleagues who are more than happy to talk simulator technicalities if you so wish. The only thing I though was missing from the combat sim was some force feedback through the controls. That would have seriously enhanced the realism and hence experience even more since, without it, it’s hard to judge the ‘g’ you’re pulling until you get an overstress message on screen. It’s a small point in the grand scheme of things and shouldn’t deter anyone for what I found to be a really brilliant time. Thoroughly recommended – thank you John and your team.

This was a birthday present from my family and it was top notch. The experience was a terrific afternoon spent with John and Harvey who combined to provide a most welcoming time with them.
As an old aviator I could not have been better pleased with the excellent equipment which gave me a most realistic jaunt in an aero tow glider, Tiger Moth and a Lancaster.
An old Fighter Command friend was equally enthused about his circuits and bumps in a Meteor 8. In the course of of our trips we visited old haunts and local haunts thoroughly enjoying the whole experience. Book yourself in now. You’ll love it.

A birthday present from my husband which was so much fun.We started off in a Cessna and flew over Hunstanton where we live and all around locally. It was great that you can pause the flight and get a good look at all the landmarks. Then changed to a spitfire and flew to Rhodes and the greek islands where we have family on holiday there. John is an excellent instructor and I felt completely at ease.Afterwards Harvey showed us around the Combat Zone where there are 4 life size Spitfire cockpits to fly, excellent for anyone that likes games. Thank you John and Harvey. Jimmys cafe was very good for home cooked meals.
